I'm so behind with this!

Luke and I at St. Andrews

So, since I should be writing a paper now :( I have decided instead to update my blog! I haven't updated it in so long and have been to so many new places since I last posted. In early March my class and I went on a school trip for the week to Scotland. We visisted Edinburgh and Glasgow. Scotland is definitely one of my favorite countries so far. It was so nice to see so much green and so many hills! Copenhagen is so flat so it was nice to see a little contrast. I also went to St. Andrews University to visit my dear friend Luke who has been attending the university since freshman year. Also a little royal wedding fact for you, St. Andrews is where Kate Middleton and Prince William met. They have given the school so much publicity which is funny.

Soon after I got back from Scotland, Andrea, my best friend from Scripps, came and visited me and then I visited her the next weekend in Berlin. It was so nice to have her get a view of my life and then see hers in Germany. I had never been to Germany before so it was pretty cool to see how my neighbors live :) Berlin was too cool because the history and the heartache that the city experienced still feels so fresh and present. The first time I have ever seen history so alive.

Well... then I just had my spring break which was incredible. My two friends from DIS and I visited London, Madrid, and Lisbon. We wanted to keep our traveling pretty light (in comparison to my last tour) so that we could just relax and have an amazing time. London-best food ever! Not the pub food but they had so many incredible markets with fresh veggies, cheese, and anything you could ever want! Madrid-definitely better than my last trip to Barcelona. We were right in the center of town so we were really a part of the action. We went to a local bar where they had a buffet for free (but you had to buy drinks) so we definitely lived the Spanish lifestyle while we were there. Lisbon-incredible! The Portuguese people were so kind and almost everyone spoke English. We stayed at an unreal hostel and lounged on the beach and rode bikes. I definitely got sunburnt too but I had to suck up the sun while I could! I still need to upload pictures from the trip so I will definitely put up more later.

Hope all is well at home!
Much love

Just so you know

The World Cup in handball has been very exciting for Denmark because we are in the finals! We play France tonight and everyone is so stoked because this is the first time Denmark is in the finals since like 1967 or something. Will post if they win. Apparently everyone in town is going to go insane tonight if they do :)

Also, here is another awesome song that has been playing all over the radio. Her name is Adele and this is from her second album. Not sure if it is already playing at home but it is an amazing song I think :)

New Jam!

Since I am trying to become more blog involved... expect some cool/weird music posts! This is Robyn from Sweden and she is absolutely incredible. She is becoming really big in the US too! Her new album made it in Rolling Stone's best albums of the year list! Top ten too :) Just for fun, here is my jam of the day. Halia loves her now too haha

Hej fra København!
Jeg savner dig men jeg er super glad for at være hjemme i Danmark :) Google translate that! I'm back and had the best birthday ever! Martin (min kæreste) threw me a surprise birthday! I had no idea and I kept trying to make my own casual pizza night arrangements. All of the new Americans and some of my Danish friends surprised me by decorating my room and our kitchen. We had pizza, some beers, and best of all LAYER CAKE! Layer cake is for Danish birthdays and it is basically layers of cake and cream with jam and frosting. My Danish friend Louise made two of them because it was also another American girl's birthday too. Very sweet.
Classes are going really well. I am taking Danish 2 (which is super hard actually), Human trafficking, Gender and sexuality in Scandinavia, and Positive psychology. I am so excited about my HT and sexuality courses because they definitely pertain to my work with sexual assault victims and I am trying to find some volunteer opportunities over here. It is hard because I am only here for one semester so, so far no luck...
Thank you so much for all of the birthday wishes and I am going to put some money on my skype account so I can make some calls soon!
Much love and here are some pictures from my birthday :)
oh, and the guy in the black sweater is my boyfriend... for all of you who are curious haha

guess who is back?

Hello everyone!

Just got back yesterday from an awesome trip to Oslo, Norway. My friends Hannah, Lynn, Alyssa, and I boarded a huge cruise ship on Friday and landed Saturday morning. We could not have asked for a better day in Oslo! The sky was brightly blue and we had a beautiful sunny day. Sure it was freezing but we didn't mind too much. There was even frost all over the ground!

We only had a day to spend so we planned our day wisely. We first visited the Munch museum (the famous Norwegian painter who created "The Scream"), then an amazing statue garden and the world's largest small bottle museum (will explain!).

the world's largest mini bottle museum was crazy cool. We walked by it and had to go in. Not only was it filled with thousands of bottles but they had a slide, a "room of horror," and a fake brothel! Completely bizarre to say the least. They gave us mini bottles as souvenirs (non-alcoholic cognac) which was pretty funny.

Oslo was just an amazing city. So large and spacious. Now all I need is Finland and I will have conquered Scandinavia!

I leave for London friday which I am very excited about, but I have plenty of homework to keep me busy until then :(

Here are some pictures from my trip! Much love! Jeg eskler dig!

Has it really been over a month?

Man, I am bad at keeping in touch!

Hello everyone! I just got back friday from a wonderful trip to Estonia and Sweden. The photo above is of me and my fabulous cape I bought in Estonia! Little old ladies sell sweaters and other knitted things in the streets to make some extra money (apparently they receive a really small pension). I wanted to buy sweaters to dress the whole family (especially Finny! They had a pink kitty poncho) but those old ladies were not to be bartered with haha.

I went to Estonia with my Child Development class to see how their special education programs are being formed and run. Estonia has only been an independent nation for 20 years! It was crazy to see the Soviet buildings and influence. Tallinn was such a beautiful city. Very medieval and historical. You would be next to a castle and then look over and see a sad sad looking Soviet building. Pretty crazy! There was a lot of prejudice towards the Russian children, but all and all Estonia is headed in a very "Scandinavian" direction of education.

After Tallinn we went on a huuuge ferry to Stockholm, Sweden. The ferry was full of casinos and nightclubs but I was soo seasick. Absolutely terrible. Sweden, however, was beautiful and perfect. Stockholm is so much more diverse than Copenhagen. So many different people! Not just blondes as expected haha. The Swedes were so kind and I ate so much delicious food. There was only one restaurant where they apparently have no idea what being a vegetarian means. Everyone had salmon or meatballs and I was served a "game casserole." GAME! But the potatoes I had were very delicious :)

As fun as the trip was (we also saw a Swedish opera...crazay), I was so ready to come home to Copenhagen. I love it so much here. Even if I don't understand what everything means or what people are saying, this really does feel like home. Landing in Denmark felt like such a relief...

I have a lot of adventures ahead of me though! the weekend of the 22nd I'm heading to Oslo, Norway on a "booze cruise" but I'm certainly worried about getting sick again. At the end of the month, I will be traveling for two weeks with my friends. We are heading to London, then Barcelona for Halloween, then Italy (Milan, Rome, Venice, and Florence), Greece (Athens, San Torini) and PARIS! I am sooooo excited!

I will try my best to write more soon and here are some pictures from my Estonia and Sweden trip :)

Much love everyone
